Still not Finished, but Functional

the bathroom is still not finished, there are tiny details that are still needed, but it is functional and has been for quite a while and honestly that is all that matters at this point.

my hubby and i were roaming Lowes and came across this mirror. I waited for one from Magnolia Home to be back in stock, but the more that i thought about it i didn't think it would work right in the space even though i knew it would look amazing.

we came across this one and both liked it so it seemed like it was a no brainer.
it sat in the box in our room for 2 weeks before i decided to tackle putting it up.
i don't know how it all happened and i wish i had timed it all but i got it put up with a quickness. i was shocked when i stepped back and saw it hanging.

there were a couple of towel hooks that we liked but ultimately decided on this one. I didn't want to buy one until we had the mirror purchased and installed.
turns out it is perfect.

now to decide on some open shelving for over the toilet. i was thinking 3 but maybe just two. I measure the space and don't really want anything more than 16 inches long. I'm going to have to go shopping with my tape measure to find exactly what we want.(and to be honest we are 100% sure we know exactly what we want.)
but i know that when we find it we will love it and then the back of the toilet will stop being a catch all for all the things.

Getting Closer

You'd think that it would be done by now, but no, we are still ticking away with the bathroom renovation. Contractors have been long gone, so that is good. Now it is just stuff we need to do and need to find the time to do them. We have a mirror, i just need to get it hung, #slacker

The cabinet was a huge headache, not the cabinet itself but the getting the cabinet actually delivered. Here are some photos of the process and then the final thing...

I still need to paint the bathroom door, which i will probably do in September when i have some time off.

We have to make a final decision about shelving above the toilet but that can't be done until we get the mirror hung. and i want to get a hook to hang a towel on next to the sink. I think i have the hook that i want in mind but i need to make sure it goes ok with the mirror and shelves and fits in the space well. so here is what we have left to do:

paint the door
hang mirror
decide and buy shelves
buy hook and hang

after all of that is done, we may finally be done with the smallest room in our house renovation

Little by Little

I guess one day it will be completed. It will probably all come together when i am off of work for a week in September, I guess i'm good with that, or at least have to be.
I did get the curtains hung so the neighbors couldn't see in, not that they were trying too.

My mom picked up the rug for me from World Market. Why don't we have any of the good stores in our city? anyway i love it in the space. for the mirror, the one i got is a no go and then one i found and like is on back order until August or September. so we wait.

This is my attempt of the dimensions to see how it would be on the wall. the actual mirror will clearly look way better. my arch drawing is lacking and clearly i can't cut a straight line.

to the left of the door, there will be a tall skinny cabinet that has a mirror on the front that will hold all the bathroom things. it was supposed to arrive yesterday but will get here tomorrow. i mean that is just how this bathroom has been going right.
A friend said that Rome wasn't built in a day. I told her #truth but Rome is way bigger than this bathroom.

Last Post Was a Lie

Last Friday the plumbers came and rest everything. It wasn't until after they left that i actually got a good look at the toilet.

Wait! What?!?!
It looked like something my kids could have done. It was awful.

We contacted the contractors with the above photo and he said he would have them come back out on Monday to fix it.

I was happy to see it looking way better when we got home on Monday night.
Next up on the to do list:

Put cans on light

Hang mirror

buy a curtain rod
hang curtains

put up shower curtain

get a rug
decide about shelving above the toilet

the cans for the light were easy. well not easy but i was something i was able to do and we used the shower curtain that we had before, as well as the rod. so CHECK and CHECK

we also still need to paint the inside and the outside of the door and possibly the frame again. my mom is getting the rug today and i will have it in my hands sometime next week. we have this mirror but it doesn't really match the light fixture or the sink faucet. it does match the shower fixture and the bathroom floor. I think i am going to pull it out of the box one more time and maybe even hang it to get a feel for how we like it. i did find another one that i like but it is currently out of stock.
stay tuned. i am sure i will get photos eventually of what it looks like in the space.
it is nice to know that all the contract work is completed but there is still things we have to do to be completely ready. I did shower in there today though.

Progress

Our time line of events looks like this:

March 17th: was told that there was mold and mildew and moisture under master shower

March 19th: Plumber came out

March 27th: Insurance placed us with a contractor

March 29th: Apex demo'd the shower floor and cleaned mold and mildew. also contractor came out to submit estimate to the insurance company

April 3rd: insurance company approved the estimate but contractor wasn't thrilled with total

LOTS OF WAITING!
May 1st: while we waited i decided to purchase the new mirror for the space
Mirror from Wayfair

April 30: contractor came out with tile guy and the took more measurements and looked at a few more things to resubmit a new estimate

May 3rd: new estimate was sent to insurance

May 6th: insurance accepted and we got a call that we needed to go to the tile shop to make decisions.

This was our inspiration for the bathroom. Now, we understand that there is not way to get our bathroom to look like this because like 4 of our bathrooms could probably fit in this space. but, out of all of the colors schemes and bathrooms that we looked at, this was the one that we both liked.
Our Victorian Italianate

The floor in the above shower room is real wood and the tile on the walls is a real marble. We found out that we would have to modify some choices since real marble is way more than we had to spend and we were told was probably not something we would want to go with even if it was less cost.  I had been searching for things that we liked. the tile i had in mind ended up being real marble, so i knew that i had to put that out of my mind.
we thought we had decided on a wood looking tile for the floor and then my hubby thought he wanted something with more red in it. the wood tile he originally found was way more red that i wanted and we ended up agreeing on the one below. it is actually the one that i had originally saved on my Pinterest board and screen shot on my phone to remember.
So the wood tile will be on the bathroom floor, the marble looking porcelain tile will be on the shower walls in 12x24 and the shower floors will be the same porcelain tile in 2x2s matte with a gray grout.

writing this out seems easy but let me assure you that it was not. the tile guy was showing us what he would pair with the marble looking tile and it just didn't feel right to me. sure it looked good and i was sure that it would look good in a bathroom but it was not what i had envisioned in my bathroom for the last 24+ days.

In fact we ended up having to leave the tile store and let them know that we would call back the next day after we had a chance to talk about it and think more on it.

May 7th: we called and let them know that the above picture and the 2x2 floor tiles were what we wanted to go with. We have a bench going back in but it is smaller than the one that we currently have ( you can see it in the photo below) we also will have a build in nook to hold soap and shampoo.

Also the mirror came in today and it is heavy and beautiful. I can't wait for it to be hung in the space.

May 8th: This was a last look at the shower floor, covered with plastic because it is opened to the crawl space.

May 9th: the contractors came to fix the joists (photos to come)

What i have left to do:
*decide on paint color (we are leaning towards Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray (that is the color of the cabinets, i our inspiration photo))
get an electrician to add a vent/light in the shower
buy:
*new light fixture
*shower head
*buy vent/light

I'm sure there is more to do but right not this is all i have.

Bathroom Reno

Over spring break, my hubby and son were on a missions trip, my sons first missions trip, and my daughter and i woke up on Sunday morning March 17th to a very cold house. We called the AC guy and he came out to let us know that i would be something that he could fix but that he also saw some mold under the house where a bathroom may be. he was pointing right to our master bathroom.

i showed him the master bathroom and he said that where the shower was, was the location that he noticed mold and moisture.

I wanted to get a bunch of before picture so that we could remember what the bathroom looked like before the haul of replacing everything, which after getting water mitigators out and a contractor out is what is going to happen

The bathroom is very small and there really is no way to build it out, without taking away someone closet (mine) or busting into someones room (my sons)

it also has way to much stuff in it for being such a small bathroom. something we plan on rectifying once we get it all fixed

looking at getting a new mirror for over the sink, we are just resetting the existing pedestal sink. also hoping to get a new light fixture for over the mirror and a new faucet for the existing sink.

the space to the left of the door (actually in our bedroom) is going to be a tall, skinny tower from ikea (anyone want to take a trip to Atlanta with me for some shopping) with a mirror on the front of it.

The door to the bathroom will be a sliding barn door which we have dreamed about for a few years.

The tile we chose years ago was travertine for the floor because we loved the look of it. NEVER AGAIN. it is a nightmare to clean and can't be sealed for fear of being extremely slippery.

the water mitigation group came out and demoed the floor they fell through the sub-flooring from being rotten and found rotted beams, one of them actually mobile.

it as been covered with plastic since March 28th.

We meet with the contractor on April 30th to sign the papers and get the ball rolling on this.

I have a variety of things and ideas in my head for this new bathroom. here are some details we are considering and some tile we considered.
