Day 88

when I woke up this morning I had no idea what was going to happen to the house today.
I stepped out of the bathroom and saw this door that leads to Little girls bedroom and just loved it.
I mean those hinges.
I just imagined how amazing it was going to look with the door knob on too.
oh I was excited

we got a text once I got to work that the guys were coming this afternoon to finish the trim in the kitchen and to add the quarter round to Little girls room.

they also hung her closet in her room but I am saving the closet for another post.

they told us when we were leaving for dinner that they would bring our fridge in and would still have to be back to finish painting the closet (because they ran out of the paint) and the need to add three thresholds to the room and we may have them add a new threshold to the back door because with the new floor it is really tight.

isn't the trim in this room amazing?!?!

and check out our new fridge.
I love it.
the color is dreamy and the size is insane. our other fridge was so small. I was taller than it. I can't believe that is what we use for the last 10 years.

Another break in house stuff......

.....this time to post about Golden Boy
he had his first soccer game on Saturday
thankfully no one works at the house on the weekend so we get a bit of a break from people coming in and out of our house.
while it would help the process go quicker I am glad for the short breaks from all the construction

so Saturday we went to the soccer fields, soccer fields instead of the baseball fields.
this is the first time since Golden boy was 4 and 5 that he has asked to play soccer.
he has played baseball for the last 4 years.
I am kind of happy with the break from baseball and a change in sports. he has two friends from church that are on his team and this game he played against another friend of his from church. it is going to be a fun season. I am excited to be a soccer mom again.

it was a beautiful day for soccer but super windy

Day 82, 83, 84, 85

day 82 was trim  day (mainly the trim around the doors in the kitchen and the trim in Little Girls room)
during trim day they did this for the light switch for the pantry.
they mentioned to the hubby that we may want to talk to the electrician and see if he could move it to that wall right there by the back splash and they would just take this 1x4 down and put a new one in.

we asked them and they were able to do it. here is the space cut for the switch

Day 83 the electricians came out to do the finishes on some of the recessed lighting.
I just love the way it looks and can't believe  that it has taken us 10 years to do this in the kitchen.

Day 84
they laid our floor in the kitchen
our contractor stopped by at some point to drop something off and took this picture of it and sent it to my hubby.

later on when it was all done he sent me this picture.
before I got home from work I posted this to Facebook: "Nervous about seeing our kitchen floors in person. Nervous like butterflies in your tummy, first date kind of nervous."

it did not disappoint. it was stunning. both my hubby and I are very please with the way it came out and were so happy with the choice that we made.

Day 85
the electricians came back to finish up the lighting and to install the appliances.
the plumber also came to install the dishwasher and the faucet.
I got a text from the contractor that they dishwasher had an internal leak and we had to contact home depot and get it exchanged out (which happens this coming Wednesday)
then I got another text from the contractor saying that the cold water on the faucet had a leak. the faucet is the same stainless steel color as the sink but the handles that we received with the faucet were gold. it was so weird. so even if we didn't have to return the whole faucet because of the leak then I would have had to at least returned the handles to get them the matching color as the rest of the faucet.

I was able to get a picture of the oven installed and then faucet before they had to remove it because of the leak. I placed an order for a new faucet. hoping it comes sometime this week.

the first light we chose for over the sink was too gold as well. the description said antiqued bronze and it was more of a caged type pendant light (that I loved) but the gold color just didn't go with the rest of the look. I got the original from Lowes so I send back to their website and saw this one right away. I showed it to my hubby and he loved it so we headed to the store and bought it.

still needed:
the refrigerator still needs to be brought in and plugged up in its space
the baseboards in the kitchen need to be placed
quarter round in Little girls room
closet doors in Little girls room
door knobs on the three new doors
a decision on what type of stone and look for the fireplace/wood burning stove/Smokey joe hearth
trim on the cabinets (around the bottom)
the air vent under the cabinet fixed
everything moved back into place

Day 80

we arrived home on Sunday afternoon in just enough time to unpack and head to church for small group.
i was excited to get a look at the kitchen.

i snapped a few picture of the walls because they painted them on Friday
I'm not sure if they are done with the paint or even the ceiling really but i am liking the way it has turned out. we know that we are going to have to repaint that red door because it doesn't really work with the wall color.
at least we don't think so.

The wall color is Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore
and i think that we may go with this color, Raccoon Hollow for the door.
not 100% sure yet but i think it will help the look of the color on the door side of the room.

but up against the cabinets.......i love it
i can't wait to see the it all with the appliances in.
it has been a roller coaster ride but it is all coming together and it exciting.......and a bit nerve wracking as we wonder if we made the right choices.

A break in the house stuff.........

in all reality though......is there ever a break in the house stuff? i know there is an end in sight.....just waiting on it.

in the meantime i am going to post about the Little girl and her milestone last night. First tooth lost. i just can't believe it. this first picture is from March 9th. But let me go back even farther. Little girl has been waiting to loose a tooth since she was like 4. We kept letting her know that it would happen just to be patient. Early March she told me that her tooth was loose. I felt it and realized it was. She finally had a loose tooth after years of wishing for it. I snapped this picture because i knew if i didn't get one of her before she started loosing them i would be upset.

last night was the day. she was laying in our bed playing a game and said mommy can you check to see if my tooth is ready to come out?  i really wasn't sure it would be. she has been asking every day since the beginning of last week. i reached in and pushed a little and we heard a pop. her eyes got wide because she thought i had gotten it out. i told her i needed to grab a paper towel and then i would finish getting it out. when i came back i asked her if she was ready and she was, i wiggled it a bit more and then out it came. she said that it did hurt some but she never cried. i asked her this morning if it hurt bad enough coming out that she wished we didn't pull it and she said NO.

she was glad that it was out and was ready to go to school and tell everyone that she FINALLY had a missing tooth.

Day 77

Thursday we left for a family wedding around 9 in the morning. the contractor and his guys were there ready to sand and paint.

there was still another coat left to do on Little girls room and then the kitchen.

we got to GA for the wedding and unpacked and hung out and left for dinner with the family at 6pm. After ordering and waiting for our food i realize i have yet to hear from our cabinet guy about the counter tops.
Now i should mention that he has a pretty good sense of humor.
7:01pm (ME:) how are those counter tops looking?
7:08pm (Him:) what counter tops?
7:16pm (ME:) did you just go to my house to marvel at those beautiful cabinets?
7:43pm (Him:) don't be silly! i had to adjust those 2 doors above the vent
(i think the screws just had to be tightened because they were uneven)

(ME:) aaaahhhhh!!! so you did work today. thank you thank you.

then he sent me these pictures
at first we were a little worried that the counter tops were way darker than we were anticipating or wanting

then this one came through
and seriously i can look at it forever
i love that sink

this one came in last and put our worries at ease about the darkness of them

meanwhile we are mulling over all the pictures and showing family and i get this text from him

8:00pm (Him:) no response?

i let him know that we were speechless. that we loved them and were so thankful for the work that he did on our kitchen.
i just couldn't wait till we were home and could see them in person.

Day 76

I posted a Day 76 on Instagram saying exciting things happening today......stay tuned
and then i waited
and waited
my text conversation with my hubby
10:52am (ME:) anyone there yet?
(Hubby:) idk. wrapping up at CB with kids. Had to get out of house
(ME:) did you leave it unlocked
(Hubby:) yes

11:19am (Hubby:) Still no one here
(ME:) should i call
(Hubby:) no. we just need to be patient. We've waiting this long

12:04pm (ME:) anything
(Hubby:) idk. at moms. will check later

12:41pm (ME:) can you go ck....i'm dying
*Hubby;) movie about over

12:50pm (Hubby:) no one here yet. you may want to text and see what's going on.

1:03pm (Hubby:) backing up truck now. says he will work till 4 and finish up tomorrow with counter tops and trim up top.

BIG sigh of relief for me.
I scheduled a hair cut for me and little girl at 2pm that day so i left work and headed there.
the anticipation of it all was killing me.
at 1:43pm he sends me this picture
i am so thrilled and it is barely anything.

at 2:22 pm our contractor sends us this picture
i may have squealed a little when i saw it
again. it isn't even finished

i took this picture that evening when they left.

the next day they were coming out with the counter tops to install
we left that next morning for a family wedding.
needless to say i was eager all day to see the final out come of these counter tops
a new post is coming up about that.

Day 67 and 68

well this photo below isn't from day 67 or 68 but from last week when they laid the floors in Little girls room. they brought the unfinished flooring out into the hallway because then the existing floor was being removed it got lifted up into the hallway too.

yesterday the gentlemen who were going to sand and stain the floor came in.
i have felt bad all weekend so i came home from work early and it happened to work out perfectly. they were just heading out to get lunch and were able to find out what shade i liked for the floor.
he mentioned that he thought the natural was the best choice but with the ambering of the existing floor he wanted to see if the golden oak would look ok.
in the picture below you can see the existing floor on the left, then the top color is the golden oak and the bottom is the natural and then the unfinished floor on the right.

i agreed with him that the natural looked the best.
when they got back from lunch they finished up and put the first coat on the floor.
here is what it looks like in Little girls room

this picture is my day 68 picture. i snapped it this morning when it was probably pretty dry and waiting for its next coat when they came back later today.
i love how well they blended the new stain with the existing stained floor. hopefully after the next coat it will be even more blended in.

today a plumber was also coming in to change a cast iron pipe that is in the kitchen. i am kicking myself that i didn't get a picture of that before. i do have a small edge of it in another picture so i will post that later when i get more pictures of the hallway and Little girls room.

Day 63

so this top picture is from my past post
what our kitchen looked like before the electricians came in and did their work

they had to rip out some of the sheet rock to run the new wires and add the new boxes.
code is an outlet ever two feet so we are going from our one plug on the back splash, to like four.
i am pretty excited about that.

they also removed the three random lights that we had in our kitchen and places 6 recessed lights.
i attempted to circle them in the next picture because right now the ceiling isn't patched so it looks like there is just a bunch of holes in our ceiling.

Day 61

so remember her tiny closet opening
here is where they opened up the doorway
bi-fold doors are going to go there.
Monday this happened and the sub-flooring was placed

Tuesday they placed her unfinished white oak floors

this is the state of the kitchen as of yesterday (tuesday)
today an electrician comes and hopefully Little girls room is getting painted and maybe the floors even sanded.
