Our Weekend

sat: well as you can see from the pictures below we went on a hike. my hubby's uncle and his wife came to visit for a couple of weeks from Hawaii. J- has never really seen the changing of the colors in the fall so we took her to some places where there were beautiful trees and lots of colors. i think that she really had a great time. next weekend will be similar as we are going to tennessee. then we went to olive garden with the fam to celebrate my brother in law's graduation from college. it's about a month or so late celebrating but we wanted as much of the fam there as possible. it was a good time.

sun: today i woke up and did a lot of baking for the harvest festival at church. i made pumpkin cranberry bread, apple crisp and pumpkin crunch treat. it was a beautiful day for the harvest fest. there were kids in costumes, caramel and apples, chili, a cake walk, sweets, a horse drawn hay ride, and much, much more. (pictures to be posted later, it may not be till next weekend)

Three Things Thursday

three of my favorite halloween costumes that i've worn...

1. when i was younger my mom let me dress up as a witch. (i think that my sister was a girl vampire) anyways the great thing about those costumes was that mom got black and red
lee press-on nails and put them on us and i think we even got to wear makeup. the press-on nails were the funniest looking back because we didn't know what to do with our hands so that they wouldn't come off.

2. i also remember being a punk rocker. what i get for growing up in the 80's or having one of those punk rocker barbies or watching that animated tv show Jem. i just loved Jem. i wish they still played it.

3. my last one was the costume that i wore last year and i wrote about it in a previous TTT post. here is what i said...i don't normally dress up for halloween but last year some friends of ours had a murder mystery party and the theme was story book characters and i was to be the queen of hearts from Alice in Wonderland and that was lots of fun. i even won the best costume.

forgot

oh my gosh i completely forgot all about desmond's new ability to see the future. i'm still somewhat perplexed by this episode. there's part of me that thinks it was somewhat useless accept for these few things...
it reminded me about desomond (i still can't believe i forgot)
it showed jack a tumor and possibly the reason that he's there (just like he said)
it showed sawyer that he can't just run because there's really no where to run too (maybe swim)
anticipating next week. i did read somewhere that juliet will have a flash back soon so we will learn more about her coming up.

Greetings from the Northwest

while my normal doses of southern rain have been heavy storms, lightening that lights up the sky or even a dark room and thunder that will make your house shake and your heart thump a little harder than normal, this morning i was greeted with a little northwest rain. you may thing i'm crazy saying greeted instead of something like a gloomy morning but i've been missing the northwest lately so the grey cloudy skies and light sprinkle of rain reminded me of the place i love and the people i miss. God sure does know how to bring then things that you need in your life right at the perfect moment.

Found

i've just finished yet another one of Karen Kingsbury's books. i just love them. i'm not sure that i can put it all into words quite like my friend -c did, so here is her post on it.

what i will say is how fun it is to read her books and know some things about her. like the flanigan family is very similar to her family. the christian kids theater, i've seen their productions only the theater is called CYT. i even had the chance to meet Karen at her house with a bunch of other ladies. it was a great time. she showed us around her beautiful house which does look like a gigantic mansion, and were able to purchase her books. she read her children's book to us and had us all in tears by the end and then she signed the books that we bought and the money went to help out her kids soccer team. it was lots of fun and i got to experience it with my two of my dear friends who also love Karen Kingsbury books as much as i do.

Three Things Thursday

three of my favorite thursday tv shows....

1. smallville: i've always been a Superman junkie. i miss the first season of this show but my hubby and i happened to catch it on the summer reruns (i love reruns). we were instantly hooked. while there has been a lot of change in the show and many episodes that we didn't really like we still watch waiting to see where they will take the show next.

2. the office: i happened to watch one episode of the second season at my friends house and just loved it. it became one of our favorite shows really quick. it was just so funny. it's hard to explain why it just is.

3. greys anatomy: last year i watched a couple episodes here and there but never really watched it all the time. a friend of mine told me how great last years season finale was so i decided to watch it when they replayed it(reruns, great!) it turns out that it was really good so i have been watching this season. i love the drama, the humor, the screwed up lives of the people on the cast and just the personalities of all of them.

it's a lot of tv for one night, i know that's why i love our dvr. and you can watch a show in almost half the time.

????

will more questions be answered or will we just be more confused and have more questions after tonight's episode of lost. well we'll see. tune in for one of the best shows on television.
UPDATE: well i guess not to many of my questions got answered tonight and i definitely have more. so sun's pregnancy isn't a miracle of the island and did jae really jump off of the balcony or did someone else throw/push him? see, every answer is followed my a question. and still probably the question of the day, even though we've found out some more about the others, who are they? they say that they are the good guys but why are they so mean? many more questions floating around in my head but they would probably be a repeat of the last time i posted about lost. i leave you with maybe next week we'll have so answers, but i know that in reality we'll probably be just as confused as we are now.

Boxes

"From the inlaid jade and coral jewelry boxes of the Orient to the utilitarian salt boxes of the Pennsylvanian Dutch, the allure of the box has transcended all cultural and geographical boundaries of the world. The cigar box, the snuff box, the cash box, jewelry boxes more ornate that the treasure they hold, the ice box, and the candle box. Trunks, long and rectangular boxes covered with cowhide, stretched taut, and pounded with brass studs to a wooden frame. Oak boxes, sterling boxes; to the delight of the women, hat boxes and shoe boxes; and to the delight of all enslaved by a sweet tooth, candy boxes. The human life cycle no less than evolves around the box; from the open topped box called a bassinet, to the pine box we call a coffin, the box is our past and just as assuredly, our future. It should not surprise us then that the lowly box plays such a significant role in the first Christmas story. For Christmas began in a humble, hay-filled box of splintered wood. The Magi, wise men who had traveled far to see the infant King, laid treasure-filled boxes at the feet of the Holy Child. And in the end, when He had ransomed our sins with His blood, the Lord of Christmas was laid down in a box of stone. How fitting that each Christmas season brightly wrapped boxes skirt the pine boroughs of Christmas trees around the world. And more fitting that I learned of Christmas through a Christmas box." - Richard Paul Evans "The Christmas Box"

so keeping with the theme here is my life in a box or special boxes to me. as i look back i see boxes in all parts of my life and i'm sure there are even some that i don't remember or don't see.

as a little girl the boxes that my baby dolls came in (cabbage patch kids to be exact)
the old cardboard cigar box that i kept my treasures in
boxes of school supplies that remind me of when my sister and i would play school
the shoe boxes that i would keep letters in
not to mention the number of shoe boxes in my closet filled with shoes (i love shoes)
the wooden oak box that i got as a senior in high school that held special memories from high school

the cardboard boxes that now hold my high school memories
my jewelry boxes
packing up all the things in boxes to go away for college
the boom box (radio) that was in my dorm room my freshman year that put my roommate and i to sleep with sweet jars of clay music many nights that first year

the cedar box (chest) my dad made me that held special things through college
the box my engagement ring came in
packing up my college things in cardboard boxes when i got married
the large photo box, from my mother in law, that holds my wedding memories
packing more cardboard boxes to more across the country
the box that holds my beautiful nativity set from my parents
the photo boxes that hold many memories from Washington state
the box that holds most of my letters from my best friend

packing yet more cardboard boxes to move back across the country and that is where my life in a box remains for now. until we find a box most people call a house and move in and un-pack.

what are the special boxes in your life?

LOST

i've found myself lost on this island quite a few times. it's not recommended (by me) to watch one whole season in one week. i don't think you should watch 2 episodes in one sitting, but i've done it before. aside from getting into pretty much any show, movie, book that i'm watching/reading i was really into this season and trying to keep up with what is going on. i sometimes felt like i too was trapped on that island. the second season was pretty much the same too. i wasn't able to watch the whole season in one week but i needed more and more answers so craved the next episode every time i finished the previous one. needless to say there is much anticipation for the third season coming up. i just can't wait.

i still have unanswered questions but know that i'm not the only one.
i can't wrap my mind around how the writers come up with what to do next but maybe there are others out there that are thinking that too.
the still girly part of me still wants jack and kate to get together and maybe there are other out there who are thinking that to, (but i know that if they don't the show will still be awesome).
i want to know who the others really are.
how they got to the island.
what is their purpose.
why are they kidnapping people.
what are they going to do with jack, kate, and sawyer.
why do they call themselves the good guys.
what is up with the hatch.
did it really make the plane crash.
what about the other hatches.
who created them and where did all those people go.
how crazy that they finally have some contact with the world outside of the island.
what will come of that.
and how long will they make us wait to find out more about pen and the world outside of the island.
did locke and echo die

i'm sure there are more questions that i have but i also know that if posted then this post will be really, really long. and i'm sure that every one else has the same if not more questions. i guess we'll see soon. tomomrrow night. yippie!!!
